Karina Estiningdyah Head of Early Years

Head of Early Years

Karina is an advocate of inclusive education whose focus is on infusing a multi-sensory approach in the education of young children and the moves towards inclusion in our mainstream communities of learners. She is a strong believer of Multiple Intelligences Theory and passionate about early intervention.

Karina began her career as an ESL teacher before jumping into early childhood education. She gained her first leadership experience when she was appointed Kindergarten 2 Level Head in one of Singapore-based preschools. Karina also worked as a curriculum writer in a preschool in Singapore before joining the pioneer team at Learn Different Academy in 2009, which then evolved into The Winstedt School. This was the point in time at which Early Childhood Education and Special Education were assimilated in her career as a teacher.

Karina received extensive trainings in Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) from prominent experts such as Patricia Wilbarger, the founder of the therapeutic brushing techniques for children with SPD, DanaKae Bonahoom the developer of Heartwork® intervention, as well as Reggio Emilia approach from Dr. Nkechy Ezeh. Since then, she has formed a special bond with The Winstedt School as she witnessed first-hand how the school has progressed to become a one-of-the-kind learning pod, offering an inclusive education in Singapore. Karina’s daughter, Jasmine, was one of the pioneer students who benefitted from the school’s holistic approach in education.

Winstedt’s core philosophy “every child deserves the right to be taught in the way that he/she learns best” has proven to have helped many children who learn differently to go against all odds and achieve success. Karina has more than 20 years of teaching experience, but her learning journey doesn’t stop there. She still enjoys creating differentiated resources while helping aspiring teachers to become inclusive educators. Karina is currently working towards completing her Certificate in School Management and Leadership from Harvard University and looking to leverage her experience to delve into the area of teachers’ social emotional learning and Growth Mindset.
